Giving birth is one of the most natural things a woman can do, you only have to watch women in other cultures or our animal counterparts giving birth to see this. So why do so many women in our culture experience more pain than other women?

Anxiety, fear and tension are built up through expectations and stories told by well meaning friends and relatives, together with fear of the unknown especially for first time mothers, or, for existing mothers, past experiences of childbirth not going so well. The more tension and anxiety there is the more painful childbirth is likely to be as the arteries leading to the uterus constrict and become tense when we experience fear, restricting the flow of blood and causing pain.

With hypnotherapy, parents can learn how to make the experience relaxing and calm, with many mothers stating they experienced only minor discomfort during labour similar to menstrual cramps. More importantly they can feel in control and their baby arrives into the world happy and peaceful.

Studies into the benefits of hypnotherapy for childbirth have also indicated shorter labour times, fewer surgical interventions, less need for medication, and calmer more alert babies being born.

Positive birthing sessions should ideally commence around week 26 to 28 of the pregnancy and are normally conducted over 4 to 6 sessions that we suggest are held fortnightly to gain the most from the experience. However, any amount of hypnosis can be beneficial so please contact us even if you are further advanced than this. CD recordings of the sessions are also provided as the more you practise and become familiar with the relaxation and techniques, the easier they will become for you to use during labour. Your birthing partner is welcome to attend one or two sessions with you.

We also now stock a one-a-day multi-vitamin in our online store for women who are either hoping to conceive, pregnant or breast feeding. Click here to find out more information.
