What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a familiar, relaxed feeling that everyone experiences in different ways. Have you ever been watching TV and realised that actually you have been miles away rather than watching the programme? Or become so engrossed in a good book you have lost track of time and what is going on around you? Or driven a familiar journey in your car and not remembered the last few miles? Well, this is a form of self-hypnosis. It is not going to sleep and neither is it a magical cure, you have to want to change yourself. You will not be out of control of your thoughts or actions at any stage nor will you do anything that may conflict with your personal values. Most people will remember everything that happens during the sessions.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a brief strategic therapy - one that is aimed specifically at finding a resolution to your problem as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible. It is a form of psychological therapy that utilises hypnosis, a state of altered consciousness in which the therapist can help you to access the deeper levels of awareness to bring about beneficial changes.
Could I get stuck in hypnosis?
Definitely not! Hypnosis is just being in a state of total relaxation and therefore, if the need arose, you could bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time. However, most people find they enjoy this relaxation so much they don't want the experience to end!
What is NLP?
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is based on the idea that mind, body and language interact to create a person's perception of the world and that perceptions (i.e. behaviours) can be changed by using a variety of techniques. Modelling is one such technique which involves the careful reproduction of the behaviors and beliefs of those who have already achieved 'excellence' in their field.
NLP is a therapeutic process which enables you to break old patterns and generate unlimited potential using posture, breathing, specific exercises, awareness and communication skills.
How many sessions will I need?
This will vary from person to person, and the issue you want help with, as everyone is individual. Some things can be dealt with quickly such as smoking cessation whereas others may need longer. On average it will take three to six sessions although other more deep seated issues may take longer. Most sessions last for one hour and we usually recommend seeing clients once a week.
